5 Minute Typing Test Five Minutes Typing Speed Test - Helps To Improve Your Speed And Accuracy

Choose your grade

Pick your grade and start a typing test matched to your level.

Typing Tests Built for Each Grade Level

A typing test is only useful if the words are ones you would actually meet. A grade 1 test that asks for semicolons measures nothing but frustration, and a grade 8 test built from three-letter words flatters everybody. Each grade here draws its text from the vocabulary and sentence length a student at that stage reads comfortably, so the score reflects typing ability rather than reading difficulty.

How the result is measured

Two numbers come back at the end of the minute. Speed is words per minute, where every five keystrokes — letters, spaces, capitals and punctuation alike — count as one standard word. Accuracy is the share of keystrokes typed correctly. Because speed counts only the characters you got right, a mistake costs you on both numbers at once.

Choosing the right grade

  • Start with your school grade. It is the closest match to the reading level the test is written at.
  • Drop a grade if the words slow you down. If you are stopping to read rather than to type, the test is measuring the wrong thing.
  • Move up when accuracy holds above 95%. Longer words and heavier punctuation are what push speed further once the keys are automatic.

Practice, then test

One minute is a benchmark, not training. Speed comes from knowing where the keys are without looking, which is what the typing lessons are for — work through those, then come back and take the test again. Retakes are unlimited and no account is needed.
